Suggestion system

What's it for? Members submit ideas with /suggest, everyone else votes with reactions, and the team decides the outcome from Discord or from the dashboard.
Pro module. Suggestions are included in the Roody Pro and Roody Team plans. On the free plan you can view the configuration in the dashboard, but you can't enable the module. See plans.

How it works

  1. A member uses /suggest with the content of their idea.
  2. Roody posts an embed in the suggestions channel and automatically adds the voting reactions.
  3. The rest of the server votes for, against, or stays neutral.
  4. A staff member uses /decide-suggestion or the dashboard panel to mark the suggestion as accepted, implemented, denied or archived.
  5. Roody edits the original message with the outcome and notifies the author if you've enabled notices.

Available commands

/suggest

Sends a suggestion to the configured channel. Any member can use it unless they're on the blacklist or don't meet the configured limits.

/suggest suggestion:"Add a music channel"

/decide-suggestion

Marks the outcome of a suggestion. It requires the permissions defined in the module. It takes four decisions:

  • Aceptar (accept) — the idea is approved.
  • Implementado (implemented) — the idea is already under way (it gets archived if you have that option enabled).
  • Denegar (deny) — the idea isn't accepted.
  • Archivar (archive) — the suggestion is closed without a decision.
/decide-suggestion decision:Aceptar comment:"Good idea, we'll do it" identifier:#42

The identifier can be the suggestion number (#42) or the ID of the embed's message.

The four decision labels are shown in Spanish in every language, because that's how the bot registers them in Discord.

Configuration from the dashboard

All configuration happens in the dashboard → Suggestions module. Here's what you can adjust:

Channel and permissions

  • Suggestions channel where Roody posts the embeds.
  • Roles that can decide suggestions (on top of administrators).
  • Anonymous mode to hide the author's name in the embed.

Voting

  • Automatic reactions for, against and neutral, with customisable emojis.
  • A thread per suggestion so it can be discussed without cluttering the channel.
  • Attachments allowed in the suggestion.

Rewards

  • Points per accepted suggestion and the minimum vote threshold to hand them out. It integrates with the economy module.

Notifications and formatting

  • Notify the author by direct message when their suggestion is decided.
  • Mention the staff when a new suggestion comes in.
  • Customised acceptance/denial messages (with author and content variables).
  • Colour, title, footer and formatting of the embed.

Limits and anti-spam

  • Minimum and maximum length of the text.
  • Cooldown between suggestions from the same user.
  • Maximum active suggestions per person.
  • Auto-archive implemented ones to keep the channel clean.

Permissions Roody needs

In the suggestions channel, the bot needs at minimum:

  • View Channel
  • Send Messages (and Create Threads if you have thread mode on)
  • Embed Links
  • Attach Files (if you allow attachments)
  • Manage Messages
  • Add Reactions
  • Use External Emojis (if you use them as voting emojis)

Managing from the dashboard

The dashboard includes a search tool where you can:

  • Filter suggestions by status, author or text.
  • Sort them by date, votes or author.
  • Make the decision straight from the web (equivalent to /decide-suggestion).
