Getting Started

Set up the economy module

Before you start. This guide walks you through configuring the module from the dashboard. For the list of commands your members will see, check Economy commands.
Pro module. The economy is included in the Roody Pro and Roody Team plans. On the free plan you can view the configuration in the dashboard, but you can't enable the module. See plans.

Quick steps

  1. Go to /dashboardEconomy module.
  2. Turn on the main switch.
  3. Configure the currency, the starting balance and the embed colour.
  4. Enable the systems you want: work, bank, betting.
  5. Define the shop with the items members can buy.
  6. Save your changes and try /balance in Discord.

General settings

  • Currency name and symbol (for example, "coins" / 💰).
  • Starting balance members receive the first time they show up in the economy.
  • Optional automatic daily bonus.
  • Embed colour Roody will use for all of the module's messages.

Work (/work)

  • Enable/disable the work command.
  • Cooldown between uses (in minutes).
  • Minimum and maximum reward per job. Roody picks at random within the range.
A short cooldown (1-5 minutes) with low rewards encourages activity. Long cooldowns (30 minutes to 1 hour) with higher rewards favour balance if you have a very active shop and mini-games.

Bank (/dep, /withdraw)

  • Enable the bank to allow deposits.
  • Interest rate applied periodically to the deposited balance.
  • Maximum capacity of the bank per user.
  • Deposit fee and withdrawal fee (percentage).

The bank is the best defence against /steal user: money kept there can't be stolen.

Betting (mini-games)

  • Enable betting in general.
  • Coinflip: enable it and set a minimum/maximum bet.
  • Dice: enable it and set a minimum/maximum bet.

Shop

From the dashboard you can create items for the shop. Each item has:

  • Name, description and price.
  • Type: cosmetic, role, consumable or tool.
  • Associated role (if applicable) — Roody hands it over after the purchase.
  • Optional stock for limited items.
  • Required roles to be able to buy it.
If you sell roles, Roody's role has to sit above the role it hands out. Otherwise Discord blocks it.

Manual balance adjustments

The module includes a tab for adjusting a user's money by hand (add, subtract or set). Handy for corrections, prizes or moderation.

  • Pick the user.
  • Choose the action and the amount.
  • Roody records the change in the module's log if you have logs enabled.

Balancing recommendations

  • If the shop has expensive roles, add bank fees to stop hoarding.
  • Start with betting disabled; turn it on once you see the economy working.
  • If you introduce the module in a very active server, lower the initial rewards and raise them if the economy stalls.
  • Review prices every so often: what was expensive a month ago can be cheap once everyone has built up a balance.

Permissions Roody needs

  • View Channels / Send Messages / Embed Links
  • Attach Files (for shop images)
  • Manage Roles (only if you sell roles in the shop; it must sit above the roles it sells)
